Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters Sequel Gets The Green Light!!

According to the website ScreenRant and MSN.com, the sequel to Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, got the green light. What made them say YES to a sequel when it only made $18MIL opening weekend? $200MIL worldwide, baby. Even though the states weren't really digging the movie, everyone out of America loved it.

Once the movie hit the $200MIL box office mark, Paramount confirmed that a sequel was in development. Will Ferrell and Adam McKay are expected to executive produce once again (under the banner of their Gary Sanchez Productions company), whether Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton will be reprising their roles is left unsaid.

Some think they won't come back and others think they will so we won't know until more information on the sequel comes out. I had mixed feelings when I heard that there was going to be a sequel. At first I thought, why would they make a sequel when the majority of the people who saw it, hated it?

Then I wasn't surprised that they were going to make another one since the movie left the doors open for a sequel to be made. After I had time to think about it, I decided that I'm not disappointed in this news. I didn't hate Hansel & Gretel, I liked it a lot and had a great time watching it. Yes, there were things I think they should of done or done better but it didn't ruin my movie experience and good time.

We have the group of people that were expecting a well-plotted, Tarantino-esque action flick that didn’t bother with romantic subplots or having a ‘message’ that were disappointed and thought it was crap. And we have the group of people that were hoping for little more than a chance to see some witches get slaughtered and Jeremy Renner doing his best leading-man which did enough to make them happy and enjoy the movie. I fall into the last group.

This is what *I* think they should do to make the sequel score at the box office and be better than the first one. They need to slow it down a bit and not make the audience feel rushed and they need to do a better job with the script. Put a little more comedy in it but not too much that it becomes slapstick. Jeremy Renner should do a full frontal, more gore and make it more creepy.

What are your thoughts on the Hansel & Gretel sequel? Yay or Nay?

My favorite Jason Voorhees

With the Friday the 13Th franchise being so huge, like 13 sequels. I've been able to pick which Jason I like the best. It's the same with Leatherface, since they're both played by different people in almost all of the movies, you're able to decide which one is your favorite and which one you thought was the worst.

Besides being Freddy's girl, I have always had a special place in my heart for Jason. I think it's because the way he was treated when he was a child hit close to home with me. Watching the whole franchise, I think it's safe to say that my favorite Jason Voorhees is Freddy Vs Jason. I like how they made him look and act in the movie.

Each actor who played Jason brought a little of their own personality to the character and I thought Ken Kirzinger did the best and really brought the character to life. Every time I watch FVJ, I think to myself "now that's the way Jason should be." Here are some fun facts about Ken while he was working on Freddy Vs Jason.

*He is the tallest out of the nine actors who played Jason. He's 6'5"

Had to undergo some dental work during the filming of Freddy vs. Jason, but it would have taken too much time to remove his makeup and costume and reapply them. When he arrived at the dentist's office still dressed as Jason (without the hockey mask), people were afraid he was an escaped psychopath and almost called the police.

In his first interview concerning Freddy vs. Jason, he did the whole video interview in Jason's costume wearing the mask, clothes and make-up, in order to make the viewers more confident in him and his loyalty to the character.

While filming the scene in the fiery cabin where Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees confront each other in Freddy vs. Jason, Kirzinger actually caught on fire. Being a stuntman for twenty-four years at that time, he remained calm while stage hands rushed in with fire extinguishers to put the fire out. This incident is discussed in the DVD commentary for the film.

According to Kirzinger, the hardest thing he went through for performing as Jason in Freddy vs. Jason (2003), was sinking into the lake. They shot the scene in a tank which was highly chlorinated and had debris to make it look like lake water. Director Ronny Yu wanted the close-up of Ken's eye and wanted him to sink into the water keeping his eye open. Then also he can't breathe because it would be visible on film. He was lying on top of the water and had to let himself sink down to the bottom of the tank without breathing keeping his eye open. Kirzinger really held his breath, and the chlorine in the water burned his eyes.

Movie Review: Hansel & Gretel Witch Hunters

The classic fairy tale gets reborn with a new twist. The story follows Hansel and Gretel 15 years after their incident with a witch when they were kids. Now they're bounty hunters traveling the world, killing witches. Along their journey of bounty hunting they discover a new form of evil that might hold a secret to their past.

After reading a few reviews for this movie I was a little afraid that I wasn't going to like it. Pretty much every review I've read hated this movie and thought it was crap. Because of that, I went to see the movie with low expectations. Don't get me wrong, I wanted this movie to be good. I've always liked the Hansel & Gretel story since I was little and I love the Brothers Grimm.

So I was really looking forward to this movie. Not to mention my love and obsession, Jeremy Renner as Hansel. :D Thankfully I liked it a lot more than I thought I would and I didn't think it was as bad as everyone thought. It was a cheesy, fun movie. Kind of like Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which was also bad ass. The fight scenes were really cool and there was enough gore to please the horror fans and gore hounds without going over the top.

The 3D effects were fun and exciting. After seeing Texas Chainsaw 3D that had NO 3D effects, it's nice going to a movie and getting what you paid for. (Paid $13 to see that movie and got ripped off of the 3D) In my opinion, the script is the reason the movie didn't hold up well. I think they were relying way too much on making this a campy, goofy movie that resulted in hurting the film.

If they went another route with the script I think it would of made the movie better. It also would of made a lot more money at the box office. Hansel & Gretel made $19 MIL. A movie starring Jeremy Renner as one of the lead characters did lousy at the box office, seems wrong somehow. The acting was great, Jeremy and Gemma did an awesome job as Hansel & Gretel. Even though the script wasn't the greatest, they still managed to do a wonderful job despite what was given to them.

They also rushed the movie. They tried to throw in as much as possible in a short amount of time. I think they did a sloppy job at that because it was very noticeable of what they were doing. They should of made the movie a little longer so they could add everything they wanted to and have it go smoothly. At the end of the movie I couldn't help but think, that was it? Went too fast and not in a good way. When I go to see a movie with Jeremy Renner in it, I want it to last so I can savor the moment. ;)

Despite the flaws that this movie had and me thinking it was cheesy, I still enjoyed it a lot. To me, I didn't think it was a bad cheesy, it was a good cheesy that lets you enjoy the movie and have a good time. Is it Oscar worthy? No but that means nothing to me since most of the movies that are up for Best Picture at the Oscars are bleh.(IMO)

I give this movie 3 1/2 of 5 Skulls. :D

Movie Review: Pet Sematary

I have the worst luck. I got really sick last Sunday with a migraine that lasted for three days. Along with the migraine, I had body aches, throwing up and pink eye. Then I got an ear infection and now I have croup. Yeah, I can't catch a break. While being "bed ridden" I was able to catch a viewing of Pet Sematary on T.V.

Pet Sematary is based off of the novel by Stephen King. The Creed family moves to a new town in the countryside of Maine. They find out there is a Pet Sematary in the woods behind their house. The neighbors are reluctant to talk about the Cemetery, and for good reason too. There is a dark secret about the Cemetery. It holds the power of life after death and when tragedy strikes, it makes that power too hard to resist.

This movie was fantastic, I loved everything about it. I really like how Stephen King wrote the screenplay for the movie. The acting was amazing. Everyone did a great job, even Miko Hughes who was around two at the time did a great job as Gage. He was so cute and creepy at the same time. A couple of scenes with him made me think that he acted a lot like Chucky from Child's Play. I wasn't too fond of that, though. ;) Dale Midkiff who played Louis Creed did a great job as the main character. He wasn't too bad to look at either, I have a thing for older men.

Denise Crosby & Blaze Berdahl were great as the mother and daughter. I really enjoyed Fred Gwynne performance in the movie as the Creed's neighbor, Jud Crandall. I didn't even recognize that he played Herman Munster from the T.V. show The Munsters until my Dad pointed it out. Another thing that I thought was awesome is this movie was directed by a woman, Mary Lambert. She has also directed other horror movies such as Urban Legends: Bloody Mary, Pet Sematary 2 & an episode of Tales from the Crypt.

It's nice to see women directors making horror films since this genre has been dominated more by men. I really enjoyed this movie and watching it made me more excited to read the book. I'm not sure if it's 100% like the book or very close to it. I'm thinking it might be since Stephen King wrote the screenplay for the movie and I know that his favorite movie from his book was 'Stand by Me' since it was the closest adaptation to his book. That is also the reason why he didn't like Stanley Kubrick's version of 'The Shining' since he didn't make it like the book as much as Stephen King would of preferred.

I think they did a great job at making this movie. You can totally feel Stephen King's presence in this movie. The story line is perfection and I think anyone would be tempted to use the Pet Sematary once they know what it does. The script was perfect and had a lot of great one liners. "Sometimes dead is better." If you're a fan of horror movie ( which I know most of you if not all of you are) and if you're a fan of Stephen King, I definitely suggest this movie. You won't be disappointed. I give this movie 5 out of 5 skulls.
